  • Now a day the uses of e-commerce and digital marketing are increasing day by day so due to the rapid rise of the internet and digitization, Governments of all over the world are taking a step of involvement in all IT governmental processes.
  • E-governance, stands for electronic governance, is the integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in all the processes. 
  • The aim of involving e-governance is to provide facility of enhancing government ability to address the needs of the general public. 
  • This is a main concept of e-government.
  •  It makes the whole administrative process efficient, transparent, convenient, fully accountable and responsible.
  • As a fast-growing economy, E-Governance is a must in all the countries , both in Government and corporate sector.
  • This concept is used to provide the surety to all the users that they are using the secure gateway and e-commerce facility.
  • Examples of successful implementation of E-Governance to the governmental function include projects like; e-Seva project(Andhra Pradesh), e-Mitra project(Rajasthan), CET(Common Entrance Test).

E-Government

  • E-Governance can be defined as the application of both communication and information technology altogether for providing secure government services, exchange of information, transactions etc. (ई-गवर्नेंस को संचार और सूचना प्रौद्योगिकी दोनों के अनुप्रयोग के रूप में परिभाषित किया जा सकता है|  इसका प्रयोग पूरी तरह से सुरक्षित सरकारी सेवाएं प्रदान करने, सूचनाओं के आदान-प्रदान, लेनदेन आदि के लिए किया जाता है।)

Advantages of E-Governance

Reduced corruption

  • Transparency can play a vital role to reduce corruption in the country.

Growth in GDP

  • GDP(Gross domestic product) measures the economic output of a nation. 
  • The GDP growth rate measures how fast the economy is growing
  • In all the process e-governance play a big role in a smooth way. 
  • It does this by comparing one-quarter of the country's gross domestic product to the previous quarter. 

Reduction in overall cost. 

  • A lot of the Government expenditure in all the departments goes towards the cost of buying stationery for official purposes because letters and written records consume a lot of stationery. 
  • However, replacing them with smartphones and the internet can save crores of money in expenses every year.

High Transparency (पारदर्शिता)

  • The use of e-governance helps make all functions of the business transparent. 
  • All Governmental information can be uploaded onto the internet. 
  • The citizens can access specifically access whichever information they want, whenever they want it, at the click of a mouse, or the touch of a finger.

Speed 

  • Technology makes communication faster with the help of the Internet, smartphones because they help for faster communication as well as a lot of data storage.

Accountability(जवाबदेही)

  • Transparency is directly connected to accountability. 
  • Once the functions of the government are available, we can hold them accountable for their actions.

Disadvantages of  E-Governance

Loss of Interpersonal Communication 

  • The main disadvantage of e-governance is the loss of interpersonal communication. Interpersonal communication is an aspect of communication that many people consider vital.

High Setup Cost and Technical Difficulties 

  • Technology has its disadvantages as well. Specifically, the setup cost is very high and the machines have to be regularly maintained. 
  • Often, computers and the internet can also break down and put a dent in governmental work and services.

Illiteracy 

  • A large number of people in India are illiterate and do not know how to operate computers and smartphones. E-governance is very difficult for them to access and understand.

Cybercrime/Leakage of Personal Information

  • There are a lot of cases of data loss or leaks so there is always the risk of private data of citizens stored in government serves being stolen. 
  • Cybercrime is always a serious issue, a breach of data can make the public lose confidence in the Government’s ability to govern the people.
