Search Engine Results Pages (“SERPs” or “SERP)

  • Search Engine Results Page stands for SERP. This refers to the listing of web pages which the search engine returns in response to a keyword query made by user.
  • SERP is displayed on the basis of the user’s chosen keywords. In this blog, we will discuss the concept of SERP in detail.
  • Search Engine Results Pages (also called "SERPs" or "SERP") are Google's response to a search query made from a user. 
  • SERPs continue to include organic search results, paid results from Google Ads, featured samples, awareness graphs and results from the film.

What is SERP?

  • SERP appears when a user is searching for any information online. Each SERP displayed is unique and related to the query being performed on any search engine. 
  • Search engines customize the SERP according to the search query to deliver a great user experience.
  • Every search engine wants to deliver a great user experience, and that's why they customize SERP based on the query they're looking for.
  • They can't exactly assess SERP's presence because search engines such as Google, Bing, etc. continue to do tests to provide their users with a fun and helpful experience.

Rich Snippets(Part,टुकड़ा) 
  • It acts as a short visual message giving a quick result such as movie ratings or any product specification at a glance.
Knowledge graph
  • It appears in the form of a small bracket and contains small information about the searched queries.
Paid results
  • These are paid advertisements made through bidding on platforms like Google AdWords or Google Shopping.

  • It appears with an organic search such as images, featured snippets etc.
Note:- Some other commonly SERP features include ad words, image pack, site link, video, tweet, news box, reviews, In-depth article, knowledge card, local pack, local teaser pack any many more.

How Does SERP Work?

  • SERP is dependent on a number of web pages which have added some keywords or phrases. 
  • SERP can view pages ranging from zero to millions.
  • For Example – If you search “digital marketing quotes” then any search engine would display thousands of pages containing relevant or irrelevant content like the ones in the image below.


  • Web designers and online marketers make sure that after doing SEO their website must be displayed at least in the top two pages of SERP.
  • SERP is composed of various ads, snippets, knowledge graphs, and websites. But they all have a common element i.e. keywords.
  • All websites and other advertisements are optimized taking the keywords into account. All SERPs appear based on the selected keywords.

  • Organic search is the result of search engine algorithm which appears on SERP.

Transactional Search


  • Transactional searches denote the paid ads and other sponsored media in particular. 
  • The search engine gets money by displaying any website owners ' ads. 
  • In the below image you can see that a user has searched for Dell laptops and its sellers with best offers have appeared in SERP.

Informational Search

  • This part fully depends on the SEO work done to elevate the website’s ranking. 
  • You should always concentrate on the quality information here. Information searches are those where users are trying to obtain any information from any of the websites that appear on SERP.
  • Mostly this is done on organic search. People who are searching for an information search are searching for the quality content that can solve their queries and not browse through a particular website. 
  • Mostly this is used to build brand awareness and increase domain authority.
Examples – Making informational blogs, making how to do videos, making a step-by-step guide, answering questions etc.

Navigational Search

  • Navigational searches are carried out to obtain the particular address of any desired website, physical location etc.
  • For example – If a user searches YouTube then that means they exactly want to navigate videos on YouTube.
  • To make your brand navigational for your visitors you must really work on your SEO. 
  • Try to make your own brand’s navigational query which helps your website getting higher rank for both organic and paid search.

What is a Featured Snippet in SERP?

  • It is also one of the results in SERP. It provides valuable information in a very short  form.
